Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass (LRYGB) ComplicationsThe operation itself carries a higher risk of complications than sleeve gastrectomy as there is a need to rejoin more parts of the bowel. This may require a return to theatre to deal with the problem. Other specific problems with a bypass are “dumping” syndrome. This occurs if patients take a high sugary content food e.g. chocolate or sugary fizzy drinks. The patient complains of feeling dizzy and nauseated. It is a self limiting condition that does not happen with every patient and has no long standing effect. Vitamin deficiencies are rare following gastric bypass.There are a number of other possible complications of bypass – these are identical to those of patients undergoing sleeve gastrectomy
